She was born December 10, 1921, to Lela Thomas and William Fife Danieley, in Raleigh. Billie graduated from Hugh Morson High School, and was an alumna of Peace College. During World War II, Billie worked at the Hercules Ammunition Plant in Radford, VA, as part of the war effort.

Much later, she had a long career with Capitol Broadcasting Company, a time that she enjoyed immensely. Billie was a friend to all, regardless of age or circumstance. She had a wonderful sense of humor, unfailing optimism, and a contagious zest for life. She had a deep compassion for those who were less fortunate and was generous to a fault. She rarely passed a stranger without speaking, which was a puzzle to the uninitiated companion and a ray of sunshine to the anonymous object of her attention.

Her volunteer activities included Yoke Fellows Prison Ministry, The Ark Homeless Shelter, Meals on Wheels, and Mayview Convalescent Center. Billie was an accomplished bridge and scrabble player and a cook who could turn any get-together into a special occasion. She loved dancing, reading, gardening and jazz. Billie adopted and was adopted by countless young men and women. She was their mentor and friend, understanding, encouraging, and inspiring them to realize their dreams and become the best that they could be.

Billie was predeceased by her husband, Teofil G. Krisulewicz, in 1959. As a young widow with five children, she became a role model of strength in adversity. She is survived by her children, Carolyn and her husband, John Ramsey of Durham, Gregor of Richmond, VA, Will of Wilmington, Tom and his wife, Debbie of Raleigh, John and his wife, Pam of Pennington, NJ. She is also survived by her close and constant friend, Laura Collins; and her beloved grandchildren, Stuart, Will, and Maggie Ramsey, Crawford and Gregor Krisulewicz, Anne and Alex Krisulewicz, Jack and Kay Krisulewicz.

Billie also leaves behind nieces, nephews, and cousins, whom she loved dearly and with whom she shared so much. Billie was a charter member of Our Lady of Lourdes parish, where she was active in the altar society, was a Eucharistic minister, and served on the Parish Council. Upon retirement, she became a member of Sacred Heart Cathedral. The family extends special thanks to the staff at Whitaker Glen and Mayview for their years of kindness and care. A celebratory mass will be offered at 11:00 a.m.

Saturday, March 15, 2008 at Sacred Heart Cathedral. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation or Hospice of Wake County. Barbara Joanne Dennis McGill DURHAM Barbara Joanne Dennis McGill left this life in the arms of her family on Monday, March 10, 2008, at Swedish Medical Center, in Seattle. She was 78. She had been in Seattle since early January receiving medical treatment for pancreatic cancer, diagnosed in December.

She leaves her husband of 56 years, Andrew Gramling McGill; her Deborah and Linda; her granddaughter, Anna Pleasants Burroughs, and Anna's father, Tom Burroughs; and her son-in-law, Hassan Bustillo and his family. Bobbie was a West Durham girl. Her parents, Samuel Edmond and Lima Pleasants Dennis, lived there all their lives and so did she. She graduated from Braggtown School (where she was voted the girl with the prettiest feet) and Meredith College and cherished her friendships with her classmates. She met Gram bobbing for apples at Meredith and the two fell into step dancing to Big Bands at the Tin Can at Carolina.

She loved him to her last breath. They married in 1951 in the company of friends who remained lifelong: Elsie and Bill Totten and Horace and Betty Myers. After college Bobbie taught third grade at E.K. Powe School until 1961, when she left teaching to devote herself to her family. Proud of her calling, she remained active in the Alpha Delta Kappa teaching sorority for many years.

She also drove for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed her friendships across the bridge table, on the golf course, and in Civinettes and Elks Auxiliary. She and Gram had a wide circle of friends--too many to name, some already departed, and every one -whose company sustained them across decades. She took a maternal interest in the friends of her children and granddaughter, who returned her affection and stayed in touch. Gram, Debbie, Linda, and Anna were the center of Bobbie's life.

She loved them fiercely and was happiest when she was with them- -on the beach at Cherry Grove, in the kitchen at Linda's house, around the table at Debbie's, at the Christmas Love Feast at church. She never ended a visit or a phone call without saying, "I love you." Bobbie was most comfortable at the edge of any circle; she didn't like to call attention to herself. And so she was surprised during her stay in Seattle by the outpouring of cards and letters from people who cared about her. Those two months were the longest period she had been out of North Carolina. She was homesick and the daily arrival of messages of comfort and encouragement were balm.

The family is deeply grateful to everyone who wrote, called, and prayed. They extend warm thanks to the people of Watts Street Baptist Church, Sue McDaniel and the members of the Ladies Seminar, and pastors Diane Eubanks Hill and Mel Williams, whose prayers lifted them into light. They will always remember the spiritual shelter freely given by the people of Seattle First Baptist Church. Craig Darling's ministry, especially at the end, helped them all to walk the walk in beauty. The family honors the nurses and doctors at Duke, at Seattle Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center, and Swedish Medical Center, and especially oncologists Hope Uronis and Ben Chue, cardiologist Michael Sketch, and internist Scott Joy.

They give thanks for the tender mercies of these skillful, compassionate people. The family will receive visitors at Howerton-Bryan Funeral Home, in Durham, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday. A service to celebrate Bobbie's life will be at Watts Street Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Instead of flowers the family would be grateful for a memorial offering to one of the following: Watts Street Baptist Church, Seattle First Baptist Church, Seattle Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center (to support Dr. Chue's cancer research), Meredith College, or Meals on Wheels. Howerton Bryan Funeral Home is assisting the McGill family. Online condolences at www.how ertonbryan.com, select obituaries.
