Olly Alexanderhas suffered a career blow just one year after his Eurovision defeat where he ranked 18th.

The singer has now confirmed that he has left his record label Polydor after attempting to reignite his music career by releasing solo album Polari last month.

The Years & Years singer, who signed with the label in 2014, went solo following the departure of bandmates Mikey Goldsworthy and Emre Turkmen.

However, the solo record went in at number 17 — his first to miss the Top Five — and failed to score any Top 40 singles.

Despite his rocky career, Olly said the departure from his label is 'for the best' and is excited to 'do something new' and release music again in the future.

He wrote on Instagram:'They aren't dropping me, they just aren't renewing my contract.

'It's okay and honestly for the best. I've been on a pretty terrible deal for ten years — it's time I do something new.

'But I'll still make music in the future.'

Olly had huge success with Years & Years' debut album, Communion which featured hitsKing, Shine, Desire and Eyes Shut.

The Eurovision contestant gained a new fan base in 2021 when he starred in Channel 4 drama, It's A Sin.

Olly represented the UK at the music competition in Malmö, Sweden with his raunchy track Dizzy on May 11, but despite the jury vote of 46, he sadly received an unfathomable zero votes from the public, resulting in him finishing in 18th place.

He has since revealed that Kirsten Dunst is the top star he dreams of working with in a movie, as he hints at a return to acting after his acclaimed role in It's A Sin.

At an intimate gig last year, Olly delivered a relaxed rendition of It's A Sin and Eyes Shut before upping the tempo to belt out his euphoric tracks including Starstruck and If You're Over Me.

And in an exclusive interview, Olly was asked at the event who he would like to star alongside in a movie and why.

Revealing that the decision was 'really hard' for him, he said: 'I would love to be in a movie with Kirsten Dunst.

'Because I could be like ''omg Kirsten Dunst, you are an icon''.'

Olly also admitted that if a biopic was ever released, he 'would go with a curve ball casting choice and go with Florence Pugh' to star as him.

He also named White Lotus as a show he would love to go on because he would get a nice holiday.
